David G. Castner, Ph.D.

Director and Principal Investigator:

Dr. David Castner (Ph.D., 1979 Physical Chemistry, University of California - Berkeley), Associate Research
Professor in the Departments of Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering, joined the College of Engineering faculty in 1990. Dr. Castner has an active research program in the areas of surface analysis, surface modification, biomaterials, organic thin films, and heterogeneous catalysis. Dr. Castner is active in several professional societies and has more than 55 refereed papers and more than 100 total publications. In addition to overall scientific responsibility for all NESAC/BIO projects, Dr. Castner is the primary NESAC/BIO investigator on selected TRD and collaborative projects. He is also responsible for supervision of the center staff, post-docs, and students. Dr. Castner has been the Director of the NESAC/BIO resource since September 1996. Previously, he was a NESAC/BIO Investigator (1990-1996) and the NESAC/BIO Program Coordinator (1986-1989).
